Arsenal are reportedly plotting a bid for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, who turned down a move to Manchester United over the summer.

The 20-year-old was the subject of interest from the Red Devils during the transfer window, but snubbed a move to Old Trafford in favour of Leipzig.

He has made bright start to life in the Bundesliga since making the switch from RB Salzburg in July, scoring six goals in 13 appearances.

Meanwhile, the Slovenia international opened his Champions League account against Young Boys, and came on as a late substitute against Manchester City last month.

As a result, Sesko, who has drawn comparisons with Erling Haaland, has attracted interest from Europe's elite, with Arsenal the latest club to be rumoured with a move for the forward.

That's according to The Mirror, who state that the Gunners have sent scouts to watch Sesko in action and are 'monitoring' him ahead of a potential move.

The report adds that Leipzig value Sesko at just £40 million, almost half of what Manchester united ended up paying for Rasmus Hojlund.

Indeed, he would also act as a much cheaper alternative to Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who has been heavily linked with a January move to the Emirates.

The Times claim the Bees would like £80 million for his services, despite the fact he hasn't played a minute of Premier League football this campaign after he was handed an eight-month ban for breaching the FA's betting rules back in May.

Asked about his search for a striker in the lead up to Arsenal's 1-0 win over Manchester City, Mikel Arteta was typically coy in his response.

"We believe in the players that we have first of all," the Spaniard said. "Because we have the resources that we have secondly, and at the moment we feel we are covering that position."

However, the Arsenal boss may be tempted to invest in Sesko should the opportunity arise, with AC Milan also thought to be interested in acquiring his signature.
