Fans think Bayer Leverkusen's official English account trolled Arsenal - moments after the Gunners missed out on lifting the Premier League title.

Arsenal went into the final day knowing that they had to beat Everton in order to overhaul City, who were two points ahead, and hope that Pep Guardiola's side didn't beat West Ham.

And while Mikel Arteta's side did what they needed to do with a 2-1 victory over the Toffees, City beat West Ham 3-1 to seal a fourth consecutive Premier League crown.

Arsenal therefore fell narrowly short of winning their first title since 2004, despite winning 16 and drawing one of their 18 league games in 2024.

Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, won the first Bundesliga title in their history under Xabi Alonso this season - and went unbeaten throughout their 34 games.

They are still yet to taste defeat in any competition, and will complete an entirely unbeaten season should they win the DFB-Pokal and Europa League final in their final two games of a historic 2023/24 season.

Alonso made a number of shrewd transfers last summer, bringing in the likes of Alejandro Grimaldo and Victor Boniface to become key players for the club.

But another significant arrival was that of Granit Xhaka, who decided to end his eight-year spell at Arsenal to move back to Germany following a previous spell with Borussia Monchengladbach.

And moments after Arsenal lost out in the Premier League, Leverkusen's English language account posted a photo of former Arsenal captain Xhaka lifting the Bundesliga shield.

Some fans thought the post was no coincidence, with one writing: "They know exactly what they are doing."

A second agreed: "Leverkusen I know what you are doing."

A third added: "Posting this right after Arsenal lost the league I respect the s**thousery."

And a fourth said: "The timing is so unnecessary lmao."
