Gary Neville responds after calls for him to be banned from the Emirates

Some Arsenal fans had demanded Gary Neville is banned from the Emirates Stadium but he has now hit back.

Gary Neville has responded on social media after an Arsenal fan called for him to be banned from games at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal were furious with the decision to allowing Anthony Gordon's winning goal for Newcastle on Saturday, with Mikel Arteta seething in his post-match interview and press conference.

After the goal stood following three different VAR checks, the club then backed up their manager with a strongly-worded statement where they branded the officiating "unacceptable".

Sky Sports pundits Neville and Jamie Carragher were critical of the stance the club took in putting out an official statement on social media.

In a post on X, Neville said it should have been done privately.

He stated: "Arsenal’s letter and even the Liverpool statement a few weeks ago (they had a genuine bad one v them) are wrong. Do it privately.

"If I was Howard Webb I would stop apologising to them and get on with it. Managers and players make far more mistakes than refs!"

But one Arsenal fan wasn't happy with the view taken by the punditry duo and believes they should not be allowed to commentate on their games.

@SimonLester24 wrote: "Arsenal should just tell Sky Sports that both Carragher & Neville are both banned from The Emirates. It’s our property so we’ll invite who we want inside it thank you very much."

Such a practice would be difficult to do given they are two of Sky's biggest co-commentators but Neville saw the funny side.

He joked that his appearances will be more sporadic given the success of Arsenal's North London rivals Spurs.

Replying to the fan, Neville commented: "To be fair with Spurs top now we will be coming less anyway."

After suffering their first league defeat of the campaign, Arsenal are now in fourth place but could find themselves four points behind Spurs if they beat Chelsea on Monday night.
