Anthony Martial could be on the move again in the coming days, just a year after becoming one of the highest-paid players in Greek Super League history.
Martial, who joined AEK Athens from Manchester United last year on a free transfer, signed a three-year deal with the 13-time Greek champions worth a reported £2.5 million per season.
After a relatively slow start to life in Athens, the Frenchman scored three goals in three games for AEK in November/early-December, which included an 87th-minute winner in their 2-1 victory over OFI Crete.

He ended up notching nine goals and two assists last season, but Martial has struggled to pick up first-team minutes under the recently-appointed Marko Nikolic, who replaced Matias Almeyda in June.
In fact, he was left out of AEK's squad to face Anderlecht in the Conference League play-offs and has played just 31 minutes so far in 2025/26.
Martial has been deemed surplus to requirements by AEK, but there is interest from elsewhere. Mexican side Pumas are interested in bringing the former Manchester United forward to the Estadio Olímpico Universitario.
With the Liga MX transfer window closing on Friday, Efraín Juárez's side are keen to get a deal over the line, but it appears salary may be an issue, according to Mexican journalist Cesar Luis Merlo.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: "AEK is willing to loan him to Pumas free of charge (they should only pay his salary), but Martial earns a gigantic salary, gigantic. They've been talking to him for three or four days, but the player still hasn't given in to his demands."

"I'm not ruling him out 100 per cent, but if he hasn't budged in four days, I don't see it being easy for him to move today," Merlo added.
"The reality is that Pumas is trying to get Martial, but the player doesn't want to budge even a euro. For now, neither Martial nor his agent have budged. If they do, there may be a chance, but we'll have to wait and see."
Anthony Martial and the Ballon d'Or clause
As part of his £36 million move from Monaco to Manchester United in 2015 – the highest fee ever paid for a teenager at the time – the French side inserted a 'Ballon d'Or clause' into the deal, which would have seen Monaco be paid a further £7.2 million if Martial won the award by 2019.

Part of the deal also saw United pay an extra £7.2 million, which was triggered when Martial hit his required target of 25 goals between 2015 and 2019.
Martial, who spent nine years at Old Trafford, scored 90 goals in 317 games for United.
