New footage has emerged of Oli McBurnie apparently being harassed before the shocking scenes in which the Sheffield United striker appeared to punch and knee a man on the street.
The striker was reportedly arrested on Monday after a video was shared on social media of what was apparently the Scotland international approaching a man who was filming and shouting at him, stamping on his phone after it fell to the ground, then attacking the individual.
However many who watched the original video speculated on what happened beforehand to cause such a reaction - and new footage on social media seems to show the expletive-filled rant that provoked the altercation.
"See you later, Oli McBurnie, you s**t c**t," goads one of the men involved, shouting at what appears to be the Sheffield United player.
"Championship will do you nice, mate... You're not even worth it mate, you're s**t. You're s**t as f**k mate."
On being told to put his phone away by the target of his abuse, the man filming replies: "Why? What are you going to do lad? Nah, f**k off mate, what are you going to do? Are you a big man, yeah?"
At this point what appears to be McBurnie and the man start to have a physical altercation.
He took a lot more abuse than most people would take

Decreases the chances of McBurnie getting a serious charge, especially due to the fact that it looks like the bloke who filmed it lied to the media about what happened

Not condoning any form of violence, but there's always 2 sides to a story and this portrays it from a different light. Must be irritating putting up with gobshites like this. We're all for stopping abuse on social media so why isn't there the same drive to stop it in person https://t.co/KusiQMqU4G

Sheffield United said in a statement yesterday that they are investigating an incident. However this new video comes with the message: "It appears McBurnie was walking home with his girlfriend when the young lad behind the camera filmed and harassed him.
"I've advised the club to take a look."
McBurnie, who's played 25 times for Sheffield United this season, was reportedly arrested on Monday evening and held in custody overnight.
A statement from North Yorkshire Police read: "A 24-year-old man from Knaresborough has been arrested in connection with an incident, which involved another man being assaulted.
"The 21-year-old victim sustained facial injuries during the incident, which happened shortly before 8.30pm on Saturday 8 May on High Street, Knaresborough.
"The 24-year-old arrested man remains in custody at this time. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police."
