Arsenal playmaker wades into weird superhero argument.

Mesut Ozil has come out in strong support of one side in the bizarre online argument between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Toni Kroos.

It all began when Kroos strongly criticised Aubameyang's habit of celebrating goals with a superhero mask, from Batman to Spider-Man to Black Panther. Germany's World Cup winner labelled it "very silly".

"Aubameyang once celebrated and took out a mask," Kroos said on the 'Einfach mal Luppen' podcast he hosts. "That's where it ends with me. I don't think that's a good role model, either. What nonsense."

Arsenal's Gabonese striker hit back, asking: 'By the way, does this Toni Kroos have kids? Just to remember I did it for my son [a] few times and I will do it again."

Kroos replied on Twitter to say, "THIS Toni Kroos has three kids..." prompting Auba to sign off his next message: "Congratulations for his 3 kids, cordially your Batman and Robin".

So far, so strange. But naturally Ozil couldn't let it lie between his current Arsenal teammate and his former long-time Germany international colleague.

The 32-year-old tweeted a GIF of Aubameyang celebrating in a Black Panther mask after a goal against Rennes while doing the 'Wakanda forever' salute with the message: "The best goal celebration!"

Aubameyang replied with: "My bro you know" and the classic fist bump. So clearly while all isn't well between the Arsenal hierarchy and Ozil, the man left out of this season's Premier League squad, the midfield playmaker and the Gunners captain are clearly still on the same page.

As for Kroos, there is history between him and Ozil, as the Real Madrid star did not support Ozil in his 2018 international retirement. Ozil felt he was being scapegoated for his Turkish background by certain people in Germany, which Kroos described as "nonsense".

"Mesut is a deserved international and as a player he deserved a better departure," Kroos told Bild newspaper at the time. "But the way he resigned was not in order."

So perhaps there is still lingering ill-feeling between Ozil and Kroos. Or perhaps Ozil just loves superhero celebrations and people wearing crazy masks - after all, he's been a big supporter of Gunnersaurus in his turbulent year at Arsenal.

Who knows where this entirely loopy feud is going next, but we wouldn't be surprised to see Gunnersaurus wade in with his own views. Unless Kroos decides if you can't beat them, join them, and dons a full Iron Man outfit next time he scores.
