Roy Keane rips into Jordan Pickford after Man City beat Everton 3-0

Roy Keane rips into Jordan Pickford after Man City beat Everton 3-0

Jordan Pickford has come under criticism for his performance against Man City

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has blasted Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his performance against Manchester City.

Heading into the game on Sunday, City knew a victory would put four points between themselves and second-placed Arsenal.

Everton meanwhile were looking to get further away from the relegation zone after a vital win against Brighton and Hove Albion last time out.

However, it took City just 37 minutes to find the breakthrough as Ilkay Gundogan showed sensational close control before finishing expertly past Pickford to make it 1-0.

Erling Haaland made it 2-0 minutes after by heading in Gundogan’s cross. The German midfielder then made it 3-0 with a brilliant free kick in the second half.

After the match, whilst analysing City’s goals, Keane questioned Pickford.

The Irishman said on Sky Sports: “Pickford, my goodness, he looks so small in there, there’s no spring, he’s not anticipating.

“Micah(Richards) said before the game he’s a top goalkeeper, he’s not.”

Fans were quick to react to Keane’s words on social media.

One said: “Aaron Ramsdale is clear. No contest.”

Another tweeted: “Roy Keane is correct.”

A third fan added: “Micah trying not crease there at the end.”

Someone else wrote: “Pickford is a good keeper. But he’s not top class. Top class is Alisson or Ederson.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Well said once again.”

This was not the first time Keane has criticised Pickford, back in 2020, the former United midfielder said: “The bottom line with Pickford, I don't need to see the stats.

“I know he's not a good goalkeeper. He's not up to it.”

On the back of the defeat by City, Everton stay 17th in the Premier League table, one point ahead of the relegation zone.

Next up for the Toffees will be an away trip to the Molineux as they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
