Manchester United hold talks with former Manchester City academy player

Erik ten Hag has already started putting his plans in place for next season, as United continue to chase a cup treble this season.

Manchester United have already begun talks with their first signing of the summer, as Erik ten Hag looks to kick on with his team.

It's another massive few days for United coming up, as they continue to chase a potential cup treble, and possibly with the chance of stopping their rivals winning the Treble as part of it.

United remain the only English side to have won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season, but Manchester City could be the first since 1999 this year.

And it may come down to United having to win the FA Cup next month to stop Pep Guardiola's side, something that won't be done with Phil Jones playing in defence for this weekend's semi-final with Brighton.

There's no doubt that Ten Hag has already improved the team from last season, when Ralf Rangnick led the team for the second half of the campaign.

The additions of Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen have certainly helped with their form this year, but there is still work to be done.

No doubt, a striker is top of the Dutchman's wish list for the upcoming transfer window, with Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen both heavily linked.

But it's not the only area of the pitch that needs improving, and the former Ajax boss has already opened talks with his first target of the year.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club have started negotiations with the representatives of Bayer Leverkusen right back Jeremie Frimpong.

Diogo Dalot started at right back for Ten Hag back in August, and seemed to be the only choice for the manager, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka given little game time.

The former Crystal Palace full back has usurped his teammate as first choice in recent months however, and improved his ability on the ball.

However, despite Dalot's first goal for the club last weekend, it seems that the manager still wants to improve his options in the position, and one of the current players would likely have to be sold.

Frimpong, who isn't out of contract until 2025, is no stranger to the city of Manchester, having been at the City academy at the age of six.

He left for Celtic back in 2019, before moving to Leverkusen two years later, the 22-year-old has played a majority of matches for his team since the move.

Several defenders are likely to leave Old Trafford in the summer, including players who are currently out on loan, in the shape of Alex Telles and Eric Bailly.
