Thomas Tuchel was overheard tearing into one of his players during England's World Cup opener against Croatia.

After nearly a week of World Cup action, England finally got their first match underway as they kicked off their match against Croatia at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

For his first tournament match as England boss, Tuchel named a starting lineup for the match with no surprises, especially after the whole teamsheet leaked online in the build-up.

And it appears that the new England manager made the right call as his side took the lead just 12 minutes into the match as captain Harry Kane found the back of the net after retaking a penalty awarded due to a foul from Luke Modric.

Initially, the Bayern Munich striker saw his penalty saved by Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, but a VAR check determined that a Manchester City's Josko Gvardiol had entered the penalty area before Kane took his penalty, while Livakovic was also off his line.

Kane then calmly put the ball into the back of the net before putting England ahead again with a second goal shortly before half time after Croatia found an equaliser thanks to a stunning goal from forward Martin Baturina.

But Kane's stellar performance wasn't enough to take the lead into half time as Petar Musa found another for Croatia in the final moments of the half.

And clear that Tuchel wasn't happy with his side during the half, as the German manager was overheard arguing with one of his players during the first hydration break.

According to Geoff Shreeves, who is working as a sideline reporter for Fox's coverage of the World Cup in the US, Tuchel could be heard arguing with England keeper Jordan Pickford during the pause in play.

Shreeves claims that the argument was due to Pickford not following instructions about passing it out from the back.

The report adds that Pickford was believed to have been off balance and played out to the wrong direction from Tuchel's orders.

“Do as I told you,” Tuchel was quoted by Shreeves as saying to Pickford.

The Everton keeper was then heard arguing back with his manager, although it is not clear exactly what was said.

Anthony Barry tears into England in brutal half-time interview

While Tuchel may have been annoyed at England's performance, his assistant manager Anthony Barry was furious, and made sure that was clear when speaking to ITV at half-time.

Barry descrived the first half as 'complicated and confusing', while criticising his team's decision making.

"We were going long when we should be going long and going long when we should be going short," Barry added.
