An England player has withdrawn from Thomas Tuchel’s squad ahead of Monday’s encounter with Latvia.

Goals from debutant Myles Lewis-Skelly and skipper Harry Kane saw England provide Tuchel with a 2-0 victory over Albania in the German’s first game as England boss on Friday.

The Three Lions will be hoping to make it two wins from two for the March international break when they face Latvia on Monday.

One player who won't be involved for the World Cup qualifier is Anthony Gordon, after the Newcastle winger appeared to suffer a hip injury in the closing seconds of England’s Albania victory.

On Sunday the FA said in a statement: “Anthony Gordon has withdrawn from Three Lions camp having sustained an injury during Friday night's 2-0 win over Albania.

“The forward has returned to Newcastle United for further assessment.”

Gordon went down by the dugout and received treatment from the England physios before limping down the tunnel.

"He looks injured," Tuchel said of Gordon in his subsequent press conference. "First of all I thought it was his stomach but it's his hip and it does not look good."

Gordon and Jarrod Bowen replaced Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden in the final 20 minutes against Albania, with Tuchel later admitting that neither of his starting wingers played at the required standard.

Asked if Foden, who was quiet from the right, lacked confidence in an England shirt Tuchel told ITV: "We will encourage him to do what he does best, to go at defenders, to go into dribblings.

"Both our wingers who started were not as impactful as normally they can be in club football. I'm not so sure why we struggled to bring the ball quickly to them, I need ro review the match.

"We lacked a little bit runs off the ball. so it was a little bit too much passing, not enough dribbling, not enough carrying the ball and driving with the ball.

"Not aggressive enough towards goal. They trained very well, they were decisive in training.

“That's why I also think they deserved [to start], they were very good in the last weeks with their clubs. We will keep on encouraging them and make sure to create a structure where they can show their potential."
