England goalkeeper Nick Pope was given the lowest ever match rating for a Three Lions player on WhoScored.com for his performance against Germany on Monday night.

England were held to a 3-3 draw at Wembley to end their disappointing Nations League campaign without a win.

Gareth Southgate's side have not won in their last six matches, although there was a noticeable improvement from the team against Germany when compared to Friday's dismal 1-0 defeat away in Italy.

However, England's defensive frailty will be a major concern for Southgate, with the World Cup in Qatar now less than two months away.

Germany were able to score three goals despite only having four shots on target in the match and it was certainly a night to forget for Newcastle goalkeeper Pope, who was given a rare chance to impress with Southgate's preferred No 1, Everton's Jordan Pickford, currently sidelined through injury.

After a goalless first half, Germany were handed the chance to take the lead shortly after the interval when Harry Maguire fouled Jamal Musiala inside the area.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan stepped up to fire the resulting penalty past Pope.

It was 2-0 minutes later - Chelsea forward Kai Havertz directing an unstoppable finish past Pope from outside the area to double the visitors' lead.

England fought their way back into the match with two quick-fire goals. Firstly, Manchester United left back Luke Shaw saw his deflected shot narrowly cross the line after good build-up play from Chelsea's Reece James and second-half substitute, Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal winger Saka then set up Chelsea's Mason Mount, who fired a brilliant first-time finish past Germany goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to level the scores.

England were then awarded a penalty after a VAR review when Jude Bellingham was fouled by Nico Schlotterbeck, with Three Lions captain Harry Kane firing the home side in front with just seven minutes of normal time remaining.

But England failed to hold on, with Pope spilling Leroy Sane's tame shot into the path of Havertz, who tucked home a simple finish to snatch a point for Germany.

It was a disappointing end to the match for Pope, who struggled with his distribution throughout the game and on one occasion was almost caught in possession while attempting to clear the ball.

After full-time, Pope was given a rating 4.27 by WhoScored.com, the lowest ever received by an English player in an international since the ratings website started receiving Opta data in 2009.

England supporters were split over whether Pope deserved such a low rating.

"How bad was he in reality? A penalty and a screamer and he spilled the 3rd goal. One howler doesn’t warrant such a low rating," wrote one fan on Twitter.

While another wrote: "The man cannot pass a ball at all, he's an outdated keeper."

England's attention will now turn to the World Cup, which gets underway on November 20.

Southgate's side take on Iran in their opening game on November 21, before facing the United States (November 25) and Wales (November 29) in their remaining group matches.
