Crystal Palace are plotting a sensational swoop for Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey ahead of Newcastle, according to reports in Italy.

Ramsey left Arsenal in 2019 to complete a stunning free transfer move to Turin, but the Welshman’s Juventus career has failed to take off.

The 31-year-old midfielder’s time at Juventus has been plagued with multiple injuries and Ramsey has only managed 70 appearances for the Italian club.

Ramsey, who is under contract with Juventus until 2023, is reportedly the Old Lady’s best-paid player thanks to his staggering £400,000-a-week contract.

However, Juventus are desperate to offload the ex-Arsenal star in a bid to free up their wage bill, with Newcastle considered one of the frontrunners to land Ramsey.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia), Ramsey is in ‘advanced talks’ with Crystal Palace over a potential January transfer.

It has been reported that talks between the Juventus player’s representatives and the Premier League club have been ‘ongoing for several days.’

Ramsey has reportedly turned down approaches from Premier League clubs Wolves and Burnley, with the Juventus midfielder also rejecting sides from Spain.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri confirmed earlier this month that the Wales international is deemed as surplus to his squad and could leave Turin in January.

“Aaron Ramsey returned today after his leave to work in England, but he is an outgoing player,” he said.

Newcastle have been active in the January window and reinforced with the acquisitions of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood from Burnley.

Wales legend Dean Saunders has urged the Magpies to make a double swoop for Ramsey and Gareth Bale, with the latter being out of contract in the summer.

“If I was Newcastle, I’d go and sign Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey,” he told talkSPORT.

“I’m not just saying that because they’re Welsh! They would definitely improve that team -- and they’re available.

“Money talks and Ramsey left Arsenal on a free, which meant he got all the money he was worth.

“There’s only about three or four clubs in the world who can pay his wages and Newcastle are one of them.

“The problem they have is getting players who are available and better than what they’ve got.

“Bale and Ramsey would improve them, Ramsey is available and I think Bale can be tempted.

“He’s only 31. He can be tempted to play now and get ready for the World Cup.

“He needs to be playing football and they can afford his wages.”
