Cristiano Ronaldo gatecrashes Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, pies Jamie Carragher

Cristiano Ronaldo gatecrashed Sky Sports' coverage of Manchester United vs Liverpool but completely pied Reds legend Jamie Carragher.

Along with captain Harry Maguire, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has been dropped for the clash at Old Trafford and has instead been named on the bench.

While he was warming up prior to the game, the Portuguese superstar came over to the touchline where presenter David Jones was asking Carragher, Neville and Roy Keane all the important questions.

Ronaldo shared an embrace with the two captains he played under at United but his moment with Carragher, who has been very vocal about feeling as though the 37-year-old should be moved on, was very awkward.

After a very brief interaction, Ronaldo walked off - although Jones did do his best to try and get a quick word with Real Madrid's all-time record goalscorer.

Keane said it was a "pleasure" to see Ronaldo and told him to "take it easy", before Jones rinsed Carragher for getting a big custard pie to the face.

"A nice conversation with you Jamie I thought," he joked. Carragher saw the funny side and said he had been "totally blanked" by United's No.7.

Anthony Elanga came in for Ronaldo in a surprise call from Ten Hag but the decision was slammed by Piers Morgan.

Morgan, who interviewed Ronaldo for an ITV special and regularly champions him, called it "one of the dumbest decisions in football history".

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: "Benching @Cristiano for Elanga against Liverpool, even by current abysmal Manchester United standards, is one of the dumbest decisions in football history. Ten Hag should be fired for this alone if they get hammered tonight.. or should I say WHEN they get hammered."

Ronaldo has been heavily linked with a move away just a year on from returning to the club but there has been a lack of potential suitors.

Last week, he accused the media of "telling lies" and vowed to reveal the truth about his situation.
