Chelsea set to test PSG's resolve with 'sensational' late Neymar offer

Chelsea set to test PSG's resolve with 'sensational' late Neymar offer

Financial Fair Play rules could force the Ligue 1 club into the sale of either of Neymar or Lionel Messi

With Thomas Tuchel desperate to add to his ranks before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday (1 September), Chelsea could be about to test the waters with a huge bid for Neymar.

According to The Daily Mail, the Brazilian's current club PSG have approached Chelsea over the possibility of a deal, one which new co-owner Todd Boehly would reportedly be willing to bankroll.

While the idea of offering one of the world's best players to other clubs on the eve of the transfer window closing appears to make very little sense, there is method in the madness for PSG.

As the Mail reports, the French club are facing a possible UEFA Financial Fair Play (FFP) breach if they don't raise funds through player sales.

With this in mind, its thought that the club would sanction the exit of Neymar or teammate Lionel Messi in order to stay in UEFA's good books.

However, while PSG might be open to selling the 30-year-old, that's not to say that he'll be let go on the cheap.

Neymar has already scored six goals in just four Ligue 1 games this season, underlining his enduring quality, and importance to the Parisians' attack.

Alongside this deal, Chelsea are attempting to bring in Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the window slams shut tomorrow, with the latter set to join for around £70 million from Leicester City - according to reports.

The Blues have already spent big sums this summer, having brought in Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Carney Chukwuemeka for a combined £150 million.

PSG have been equally as busy in the transfer market, following the hiring of former Nice boss Christophe Galtier who replaced Mauricio Pochettino last month.

The French champions have signed Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, Fabian Ruiz, Renato Sanches and Nordi Madueke for a total outlay of £100m.

Those deals, combined with Kylian Mbappe's monstrous £650,000 per week contract, have increased the need for big-name sales.

Neymar was still in the PSG team hotel on Tuesday night (30 August) with his team-mates, as they are set to play Toulouse on Wednesday evening.

With time running out, Chelsea will have to act fast if they are to have any hope of signing the skilful forward before the deadline.
