Chelsea fans chant "We are staying up" after 3-1 win vs Bournemouth

Chelsea fans have not had much to chant about this season, but this result meant that their Premier League safety was secured.

Chelsea have had an abysmal season at best, with fans seeing two managers sacked, star players underperform and their club sitting in the bottom half of the table for an extended period.

But today, the Blues were victorious at the Vitality Stadium as they beat Bournemouth 3-1, with goals from Conor Gallagher, Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix topping off the win, with this being the first time since the middle of March where Chelsea had scored more than one goal in a game.

The result means that Chelsea are now mathematically safe from relegation, as memes and suggestions of this outcome had floated around online and did not seem completely impossible.

The reaction to Chelsea going 3-1 up was celebratory and relieved from the travelling fans, as the away end started chanting "We are staying up, say we are staying up" repeatedly while bouncing.

It might be the happiest any travelling group of Chelsea fans have been this season, as they have been given a reason to celebrate something, though it may be in jest.

The jubilant Chelsea fans were also celebrating Chelsea's first win in 10 games, as they had also been on a six game losing streak in all competitions prior to this game.

Chelsea's worst ever finish in the Premier League era is 14th, and that was in the 1993/94 season, long before the club had any sustained period of success and a decade before Roman Abramovich took over and changed the London club's fortunes.

It is still possible for Chelsea to finish in 14th though, as they only sit three points clear of Bournemouth, who currently occupy that spot in the table.

This season has largely and almost completely been one to forget for Blues fans, and it leaves owner Todd Boehly with a massive job ahead of him in the summer, with not just a new manager to appoint, but possibly a large chunk of the team to be replaced or sold following the performances this term.

Fans will be expected a huge upturn in results and fortunes next season though, given how much Boehly has already spent and will have spent by then, but for now Chelsea are in limbo.
