"Celtic are an embarrassment" pundit rips into Celtic over Champions League performances

The Scottish champions have earned one point from their first four games in the Champions League, after losing to RB Leipzig.

Celtic's performances in the Champions League have been dubbed as 'embarrassing' after the Scottish champions lost 2-0 to RB Leipzig.

This season Celtic gained access straight into the group stages of the Champions League, for the first time since 2008, meaning they didn't have to endure a long qualification process.

In the previous for seasons those early stages had proved too much for the Hoops and they hadn't reached the group stages, so getting automatic qualification was huge for them.

However, so far things haven't gone as smoothly as they would have liked, not that Ange Postecoglou's side would have expected to breeze through into the knockout stages.

A group with Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk and RB Leipzig was always going to be tough and from the opening four games they have just a point away to Shakhtar, who aren't playing their home games in Ukraine, to show for it.

In last week's away game against Leipzig they were at least in the game at 2-1, until an embarrassing moment for Joe Hart, with their fans still celebrating a disallowed goal for the hosts, ended all hope.

On Tuesday night they welcomed the German's back to Celtic Park but were beaten 2-0, with Timo Werner and Emil Forsberg grabbing second half goals.

That led to talkSPORT pundit, and former Chelsea player, Jason Cundy to claim that the Scots are an 'embarrassment' and even had a go at them for letting Werner score.

"What’s going on with Scottish football in the Champions League?" Cundy asked, before going on to answer his own question.

"Celtic tonight, I mean, they really are an embarrassment, aren’t they? They are!

"They step up, and they give it the big’un about, ‘yeah we should in there naturally,’ ‘we’re Celtic…’"

"That's harsh," his co-host jumped in to say.

"No it’s not harsh!" Cundy continued.

"They must be embarrassed themselves Celtic fans, they must be, come on!

"It’s not the toughest group in the world. Yes they’ve got Real Madrid, but there are tougher groups out there."

"They’ve got Real Madrid in the group," the co-host once again reiterated, pointing out that having the current European champion in your group can hardly make it easy.

"Yeah, that one. But at home today getting humbled.

"When Timo Werner is scoring against you, you know things aint right."

It's not the first time that Cundy has had a go at a relative underdog for their results in the Champions League, having done the same to Villarreal last season.

The talkSPORT host claimed that the Spanish side were a 'disgrace' to the competition after losing to Liverpool, despite previously beating Juventus and Bayern Munich last season.

Perhaps only Real Madrid are any good in the competition in Cundy's eyes, who knows.
