Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher dug out defender Andy Robertson on social media during their game against Manchester City for repeating a mistake he's made previously.

City edged closer to league leaders Arsenal after an emphatic second-half performance saw them defeat Liverpool 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

There was a huge build-up to the game with a lot on the line for both sides this season.

The defeat puts a huge dent in Liverpool's hopes of finishing in the top four with Jurgen Klopp's side now facing tough fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal.

During the game, former Reds defender Carragher called out left-back Robertson for repeating a mistake he made in last year's Champions League final.

What did he say?

Posting on Twitter, Carragher said: "Andy Robertson goes chasing into midfield and leaves his man, it happens a lot (CL final). You can't always press!"

Despite taking the lead, City came back fighting and their electric performance in the second half was too much for a struggling Liverpool side.

The former player turned pundit was frustrated with the Red's performance and it's easy to see why given it's become a consistent thing of late.

Klopp will be desperately looking for answers with the defeat being their third consecutive in all competitions for the first time since 2021.

It puts them on the back foot in the race for the top four with Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur having a huge chance of extending the gap between them and the Reds.

If Liverpool fail to qualify for Europe's top competition then it will make if even more difficult to sign top players this summer with several other projects in the Premier League looking far more attractive at the moment.

They have a huge rebuild ahead but supporters remain confident that Klopp is the right man to lead it.
