Gareth Bale could be in line for sensational return to Wales with Cardiff City now odds-on favourites to sign the Real Madrid star.

Bale, 32, is out of contract with Madrid at the end of the season and is expected leave the Spanish champions after a nine-year spell at the Bernabeu.

Championship club Cardiff City are now 1/3 favourites to sign the Wales international, who was born in the Welsh capital.

Bale has also been linked with a move to the United States, with a number of MLS clubs including DC United reportedly interested in the forward.

SkyBet are offering odds of 4/1 for Bale to move to any club in the MLS.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are third favourites to sign their former player at odds of 6/1.

Bale spent six seasons with Spurs, scoring 55 goals in 203 games for the club, before moving to Madrid for a then world record transfer fee of £85.3m in 2013.

He would return to Tottenham on loan in the 2020-21 season, scoring 16 goals in 34 games during his second spell with the north London club.

Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has already confirmed Bale will leave the club when his contract expires next month.

Speaking back in February, Ancelotti said: "Bale has had injuries, then his contract ends.

"He may not have had a good motivation but he wants to finish here as he deserves.

"It's important for Bale to finish his career well here."

Bale has scored 106 goals in 258 games for Madrid, winning numerous trophies during his time at the club – including three La Liga titles and the Champions League four times.

He could end his stay in Spanish football with yet more silverware if Real Madrid beat Liverpool in the Champions League final on May 28.
