Xavi Simons opened the scoring for RB Leipzig on Saturday with a goal out of the very top drawer during their Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen.

Since his much-anticipated arrival on a season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain in July, the highly-rated Simons has made a real impact at the Red Bull Arena.

In fact, the 20-year-old has scored seven goals in all competitions for Marco Rose's side this season, including a wonderful seventh-minute strike against league leaders Leverkusen.

As you can see from the footage below, Simons managed to keep the ball in the air with two touches before hitting it on the half-volley with a superb swivel-turn.

Leipzig, who currently sit third in the Bundesliga standings, reportedly want to extend Simons' loan spell for a further year and you can understand why based on recent performances.

Simons is also attracting interest from a number of top European clubs, including Arsenal and Barcelona, but RB Leipzig, will likely do everything in his power to retain the midfielder's services.

Speaking to the Bundesliga website at the end of October, the Netherlands international opened up on Die Roten Bullen and what makes the club so special.

"I would say we are a real team," he said. "We want to achieve things. We know that it will be hard, but at the end of the day, you have to be consistent.

"I think that we are a proper team, and I've already played for two-three teams. I've been in two-three teams as a professional, and I see that this is a team."

The young midfielder graduated through Barcelona's famous La Masia academy and was tipped as their next big star after impressing in the youth set-up.

Then, to the surprise of many, he decided to pen a €1 million per-year deal at Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.

He would then leave PSG for first-team minutes in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven before completing a move back to Paris in July last year.
