New Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham had his say on the ongoing debate of who was the best out of Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.

The 19-year-old made the switch to the Bundesliga side this summer after helping Sunderland win promotion back to the Premier League following a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the play-off final.

The German side paid an initial £27.8m to the Stadium of Light club, plus an extra £4.2m in add-ons potentially, as he followed in his brother Jude's footsteps by moving to Signal Iduna Park.

The elder Bellingham moved to Dortmund in 2020 from Birmingham City, and in 2023 made the switch to Real Madrid for an initial €103m transfer fee.

Being a midfielder, Bellingham plays in the same area of the pitch that the former England trio of Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard used to back in the day.

All three are legends at their respective clubs thanks to the performances, goals scored, assists registered and trophies won.

During his time at Manchester United, Scholes won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups, two Champions Leagues, the Intercontinental Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

At Liverpool, Gerrard won the Champions League, two FA Cups, three League Cups, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

And for Chelsea, Lampard won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League.

All three players represented England and were part of a squad at Euro 2004 which many feel the Three Lions had the quality of players to win the tournament.

The debate has raged for many years and will carry on over which of the three players were the best, with opinions differing depending on who is asked.

Bellingham was asked the question of who his role models in football are - and he mentioned Gerrard as one of the players he looks up to, along with Diego Maradona and former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira.

Speaking to One Football, Bellingham said: "I’m always watching midfielders. Documentaries too. I’ve seen the Gerrard documentary so many times.

"Maradona too – his documentary is great, but I can’t learn much from him because he was just too good. I also watch Patrick Vieira a lot. I always thought he was more defensive, but he could actually do everything.

"Gerrard is another one I watch all the time. And lots of other midfielders."
