It looks increasingly likely that Vincent Kompany will be named Bayern Munich manager in the coming days – and he's already decided on his backroom staff, according to reports.

The 38-year-old, who was named Burnley boss in June 2022 following a successful spell at Anderlecht, helped the club achieve promotion to the Premier League in his debut campaign.

But that upward trajectory soon tumbled. The former Manchester City defender was unable to keep them in England's top flight this term as they picked up five wins from a possible 38.

It was a disappointing outcome for Kompany, who was confident coming into the 2023/24 campaign. He told SPORTbible in August: “I'm the manager now but it feels like coming home. It's not something that daunts me."

Despite their failure to retain their Premier League spot, however, Kompany has been identified as a surprise candidate for one of the biggest jobs in world football.

In fact, Bayern Munich are in advanced talks with Burnley over his appointment, according to BBC Sport, who claim the the Bundesliga side believe Kompany wants to join them.

The Belgian is set to bring the backroom staff from his time at Turf Moor to the Allianz Arena, including first-team coaches Mike Jackson, Floribert N’Galula and Piet Cremers.

And the report suggests Kompany would also take former Manchester City and Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy, who is currently his assistant manager at Burnley.

Bellamy's potential move to Bayern has certainly got people talking online.

One fan reacted by saying: "Craig Bellamy is about to become an assistant coach at Bayern Munich. Surely the most Football Manager thing to happen in actual football this year."

A second wrote: "Vincent Kompany and Craig Bellamy managing Bayern Munich what multiverse are we living in," while another commented: "I cannot believe Craig Bellamy will be the assistant manager at Bayern Munich. Insane. I really have no idea how this will turn out."

A fourth added: "Imagine how much he’ll learn with them. There’s a future Cardiff City or Wales boss for you - with the right experienced No2 next to him as a calming hand, of course."

Speaking about Bellamy after he was appointed Burnley boss in 2022, Kompany was full of praise for the "misunderstood" coach.

“He’s someone I have huge respect for,” the former Belgium international said. “He’s incredibly gifted and he’s a typical misunderstood guy who gives so much. If I can have him with me, I will.”
