Eagle-eyed fans have only noticed Bukayo Saka cuts holes in his socks, the reason why is fascinating

"Why are there holes in Saka's socks, be it for Arsenal or England?" Bukayo Saka's holes in his socks left fans puzzled on social media.

Bemused fans have flocked to social media to ask why England star Bukayo Saka has holes in his socks during the Three Lions’ World Cup campaign.

Saka, who has been in sensational form for Arsenal this season, punched his ticket into Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

The 21-year-old Arsenal star started England’s World Cup opener against Iran and scored a brace as Southgate’s men won 6-2 at the Khalifa International Stadium.

Saka’s excellent form in an England shirt ensured him a place in the Three Lions’ 0-0 draw with the USA at the Al Bayt Stadium last week.

However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to ask questions about Saka’s socks after spotting holes in them during England’s 6-2 demolition of Iran.

“Do we always have holes in Saka’s socks?” one fan asked.

Someone else said: “Saka just loves torn socks, man.”

“Why does Saka wear torn socks? Somebody please explain,” a third tweeted.

While a fourth Twitter user added: “Why are there holes in Saka’s socks, be it for Arsenal or England?”

According to The Sun, Saka’s socks have holes in them to ‘avoid injury to his bulging calves during a match.’

The newspaper added that the holes can help players in preventing muscle problems or cramps, mainly due to the holes allowing the tension in their legs to be released.

Saka’s England teammate Jude Bellingham has also adopted a similar approach with his socks in a bid to prevent any injuries during the World Cup.

England, who are top of Group B, will book their place in the last 16 so long as they avoid a 4-0 defeat to Wales on Tuesday.

However, the Three Lions will ensure they finish top of Group B if they beat Wales on the night, but they can also secure the top spot with a draw unless Iran defeat the United States or if the Americans win by at least a 4-0 scoreline.
