Tottenham Hotspur won't offer Antonio Conte a new contract

Conte's time at Tottenham Hotspur is set to come to an end this summer, with the Premier League side not offering him a new deal.

Antonio Conte looks set to leave Tottenham Hotspur, with the club not expected to offer him a new deal to stay beyond this season.

It has not been a particularly good week for Spurs, with the Premier League side losing to local rivals Arsenal in last weekend's north London derby.

Whilst the game was marred by a fan kicking Aaron Ramsdale, there wasn't much for the hosts to celebrate throughout the 90 minutes, as their fierce rivals opened up their lead at the top of the table.

Perhaps losing to Manchester City themselves in midweek would have given them a wry smile but having been two goals up, ruining their own chances of Champions League qualification, by losing 4-2, wasn't the positive they might pretend it was.

Things got even worse for them on Friday night, with the investigation into Juventus, that saw them be deducted 15 points in Serie A, also affecting Spurs' director of football Fabio Paratici.

Paratici was banned for 30 months, or two and a half years, and the Italian authorities want that ban to extend to England as well.

The Italian was the man to bring Conte to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and they look like they could be leaving around the same time.

According to journalist Gianluca di Marzio, the former Juve manager is set to leave north London at the end of the season, with his contract expiring.

"The news I can tell you - with certainty is that Antonio Conte will leave Tottenham at the end of the season," Di Marzio said.

"There was no spark; his contract is expiring and the club has not asked him for a renewal."

Earlier this month, Conte saw his side drop out of the top four during a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa, following an error by Hugo Lloris for the first goal.

After the match, the former Chelsea boss was not happy with the situation at the club, and claimed that the expectations on his side were too unrealistic.

"Last season, we made a miracle. We did a miracle. But I knew which was the situation and was very clear with the club," the 53-year-old said.

"Then I recall very well people talked about Tottenham as title contenders this season but this was a bit crazy to read this. To become title contenders, a team ready to fight to win something, you need a solid foundation.

"People think you arrive and you win. This can happen for a team used to winning in the past. If you are not used to it, you have to create this, and you need time and patience. I understand the fans are disappointed because they had patience for a long time.

"But you want the truth, I tell you the truth. I know the reality. I am the coach. I live the club every day. I know the situation. I know the vision of the club. The club knows my thoughts on the situation.

"At the start of the season, I was very clear, we can be competitive but try to continue to improve, but also there are clubs who can invest £200m or £300m and others with different policies, and you have to respect the policy."

Should Conte actually leave at the end of the campaign, the talk of a return for Mauricio Pochettino to return to the club will only get louder.

The former boss left in November 2019, just months after losing the Champions League final, and is still revered by fans, he hasn't had a job since leaving PSG at the end of last season.
