BREAKING: Liverpool make first approach for Alexis Mac Allister

Liverpool are putting the disappointment of missing out on Jude Bellingham behind them, as they make a first summer move.

Liverpool have made the first approach to sign Alexis Mac Allister this summer, having held talks with the Brighton star over a potential move.

Jurgen Klopp's team were handed a blow to their future aspirations on Wednesday, with the last hopes of signing Jude Bellingham disappearing out of the window.

The Borussia Dortmund star looks set to move to Real Madrid now, with Liverpool fans still hoping he'd choose to go to Anfield, despite Klopp saying that wouldn't be the case.

That though left the team needing to find another midfielder to come in this summer, with the problems they've had in the centre of the park all season.

Some believe that Trent Alexander-Arnold could be the answer, especially with him turning into Zinedine Zidane against Fulham on Wednesday.

However, they're definitely going to need to sign some quality in midfield, if they want to get back to challenging Manchester City for the title.

And now it seems that they have found their number one target, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that they have already spoken to Mac Allister.

According to the Italian journalist, they have presented their project and financial details to the World Cup winner, and his departure from Brighton is expected early in the transfer window, maybe even this month.

Brighton's incredible knack of getting the best out of players they haven't spent too much money on has once again made them a prime target for one of the league's 'big boys' to come after one of their players.

In January they sold Leandro Trossard to Arsenal, with the Belgian now an important part of Mikel Arteta's squad, but it hasn't slowed Roberto Di Zerbi's side down.

The Gunners attempted to sign Moises Caicedo as well, however the south coast side had no interest in selling the midfielder.

Liverpool, or anyone wanting either Mac Allister or Caicedo, would be expected to cough up around £60 million for one of Brighton's midfield jewels this summer.

Already impressing in the league, the Argentina star really boosted his reputation by the part he played in his country's World Cup win last year.

His impressive form in the final, as they defeated France on penalties, had people comparing him to another Argentine midfield icon.
