LiVARpool trends as fans fume over ‘disgraceful’ penalty decision

LiVARpool trends as fans fume over ‘disgraceful’ penalty decision

Liverpool are taking on Fulham at Anfield in the Premier League

Fans are fuming as Liverpool were awarded a penalty after Darwin Nunez was fouled by Fulham defender Issa Diop.

Liverpool’s faint top four hopes are still alive after a late late winner from Diogo Jota sealed a dramatic 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

On Wednesday night, Jurgen Klopp’s men were looking to close the gap between themselves and fourth-placed Manchester United to just four points with a win.

Fulham, however, will be a tough test after they gave Manchester City a good game over the weekend, with Pep Guardiola’s men narrowly winning 2-1 at Craven Cottage.

Backed by the Anfield crowd, Liverpool started the better side and in the 38th minute, they were given a golden opportunity to open the scoring from 12 yards.

As Diop received the ball inside the penalty area and shaped to clear, Nunez nipped in and nicked the ball away.

The Uruguayan then fell onto the ground as Diop made slight contact after completely missing the ball.

After referee Stuart Attwell pointed to the spot, fans showed their anger on social media, with LiVARpool later trending on Twitter.

One said: “Livarpool in full force the last couple of games.”

Another tweeted: “LiVARpool at it again. Diop didn’t even touch Nunez he initiated the contact.”

A third fan added: “LiVARpool back at it again.”

Someone else wrote: “Never a pen clearly everyone wants LiVARpool in the champions league.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “This is NOT a penalty. Disgraceful decision.”

Fulham grew into the match as the first half went on but failed to convert the chances they created. Liverpool remained in control as the whistle went for the interval with Klopp's men leading by a goal.

If Liverpool hold on to the victory, they will close the gap to United to just four points, Erik ten Hag's men will be taking on Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday night.
