Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma ran across the pitch with a defibrillator so that a fan could be treated

The incident happened during Barcelona’s match against Cadiz.

Cadiz goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma drew plaudits after he ran across the pitch to hand a defibrillator to the paramedics who were treating a fan in the stands.

The incident happened in the 85th minute of Cadiz’s La Liga match against Barcelona.

With the score at 2-0 to Barcelona, a Cadiz fan decompensated in the stands, which led to the match being stopped immediately.

At this stage, the paramedics rushed to treat the fan in need of urgent medical attention. Cadiz keeper Ledesma was captured running with a defibrillator in his hands to hand to the paramedics.

The match was halted for many minutes as the stadium fell silent after the incident.

Barcelona player Ronald Araujo was seen praying in the centre of the pitch, whilst goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen looked extremely concerned.

At first, the players were left on the pitch as all attentions were directed to the distressed fan in the stands. Eventually, the game was stopped and the referee ordered the players back in the locker room.

Barcelona tweeted that the match was due to restart at 9:05pm CEST.

Ledesma’s heroics was praised by many fans over social media.

One fan said: “Huge Respect.”

Another tweeted: “Good sportsmanship.”

A third fan added: “Respect to him.”

At the time that the game was halted. Barcelona were two goals to the good thanks to Frenkie de Jong and Robert Lewandowski.

Dutchman De Jong had been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou for the majority of the summer, with Manchester United said to be extremely keen on signing the 25-year-old.

However, De Jong never wanted to leave and was adamant that he could play a part in Xavi's side.

When the game restarted, Barcelona went on to score two more goals as Ansu Fati and Ousmanne Dembele secured a 4-0 win for the Catalan club.
