Australian star claims Olivier Giroud 'pretended he never spoke English' just to avoid swapping shirts with him

"He just walked past me, pretended he never spoke English! And he’s been in the Premier League for 10 years!"

Jason Cummings, AKA Cumdog, has shed some light on a rather rude interaction he had with French World Cup-winner Olivier Giroud.

The Socceroos' Scottish-born striker claims Giroud 'pretended he didn't speak English' just to avoid swapping shirts after their group stage clash in Qatar.

Cummings did see the funny side of things, though, hilariously pointing out that Giroud has 'played in the Premier League for 10 years'.

In the opening game of Group D, Australia faced the then-World Cup holders France.

Despite taking an early lead, the Socceroos ended up losing the game 4-1, Giroud bagging a double.

But it was the former Arsenal and Chelsea forward's actions after the game which will be remembered forever by one particular player – not necessarily for the right reasons, though.

In what could be the greatest Men's World Cup Final ever, we saw it all, with 6 goals scored, a hat-trick, a tense penalty shoot-out and finally, Lionel Messi winning the World Cup. So, is Messi really the GOAT? Socceroo @Jasoncummings35 joins us.#TheProjectTV pic.twitter.com/ixri6RZECc

Desperate to pinch some prized French memorabilia, Cummings has opened up on how he hung around after the game in a bid to pinch a Les Bleus jersey from one of the team's top players.

“After the France game, I actually tried to get Mbappe – forget Giroud, I went for the top boy Mbappe – and he told me to meet him in the change rooms,” Cummings said on The Project.

“So I went to the changing room and the kit man was there and I gave him my top and 10 minutes later he came out with my jersey and says: ‘Nah, absolutely not, (Mbappe) doesn’t want to swap’.

“So when I was walking back to my changing room and I’ve seen Giroud and I’m walking, as handsome as ever, and I asked him, ‘Giroud, please man, can I get your shirt man? I’m a big fan, can I get your shirt?’

“And he just walked past me, pretended he never spoke English! And he’s been in the Premier League for 10 years!

“He just walked right past me!”

Loveable larrikin Cummings also sent a message of support out to Lionel Messi during the lead-up to the final between Argentina and France.

“Do the basics right Leo,” his Instagram message read.

“Don’t play the occasion, play the game. All the best, Cumdog.”

When asked about this on The Project, the Australian striker said he should be getting a nod of approval seeing as though Argentina went on to win the World Cup.

“I think I deserve a lot of credit– he’s definitely checked his phone just before, he’s seen the Cumdog pop up on his Instagram there,” Cummings joked.

“He’s checked that and it just gave him that extra motivation.”
