Arsenal identify clear route to Kaoru Mitoma as Brighton sign £30m 'replacement'

There could be an opportunity to sign the winger.

Arsenal could have a clear route to Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma this summer, following Brighton's latest transfer activity.

Mikel Arteta is thought to be in the market for a winger at the end of the campaign, as he prepares for a busy Champions League schedule next season, with a top four finish wrapped up.

Mitoma has emerged as a potential option for the Gunners, having hugely impressed on the south coast this term.

The 25-year-old has scored 10 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions, earning the attention of both Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Seagulls have insisted he is not for sale this summer, although the north London side could have found a way to poach him.

How could Arsenal sign Mitoma?

Brighton announced they had signed Joao Pedro from Watford in a deal worth £30 million, claim the Guardian.

The 21-year-old has scored 24 goals in 109 Watford appearances, and his arrival at the Amex is expected to be closely followed by Liverpool midfielder James Milner.

Pedro's ability to play on the left flank would provide useful cover for Mitoma and could pave the way for the Japan international's exit - with Brighton notoriously one step ahead in their recruitment plans.

In addition, Arsenal could have a secret weapon to help lure him to the Emirates in the the shape of international teammate and close friend Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Discussing how he has adapted to life in England, Mitoma lifted the lid on his friendship with the Arsenal right-back, revealing that his being in London is 'a nice reassurance'.

“I haven’t found it tough living here yet," Mitoma told Optus Sport.

"Having him in London is a nice reassurance even if I can’t see him much because of busy schedules. But we get along well as teammates for Japan and we both strive to play at higher levels."
