"I've been told..." - Journalist claims Arsenal star is set to leave the club in shock exit

Arsenal midfielder Jorginho could leave the club as early as this summer despite only signing last month from London rivals Chelsea.

The Italian star made the shock move across London on deadline day in the search for a Premier League title with the Gunners currently top of the table.

He has huge amounts of experience having made 143 league appearances for Chelsea and has also lifted the Champions League with the Blues.

The 31-year-old could be exactly what Mikel Arteta's team need to get them over the line with champions Manchester City still in the hunt.

However, journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed that Jorginho could be on the move again in the summer if he lifts the title with Arsenal.

Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, as reported by HITC, he said: “This could be the signing that wins them the title.”

“I don’t think it has affected their long-term transfer ambitions. I’ve been told by someone and they said that they wouldn’t be surprised if Jorginho lifts the title and then still moves back to Italy in the summer.”

He's not a signing for the future

At the wrong side of 30 it's clear that signing Jorginho wasn't something Arsenal necessarily planned.

Prior to announcing he joined on deadline day, the Gunners were attempting to lure Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo to the Emirates but had several bids for him turned down.

Brighton insisted that their star player would be staying until at least the end of the season, but that could be different in the summer.

Arteta has built a squad full of exciting young talent and whilst you need experience to go with that, in the back of their minds they will still be searching for more long-term options.

Signing Jorginho to an 18-month contract was smart because it means they can profit from his quality and experience now, but easily offload him when a suitable successor becomes available.
