Thierry Henry explains his U-turn over Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke despite backing rival takeover bid

Thierry Henry has explained why he is happy for Stan Kroenke to remain at the wheel of Arsenal despite his attempted takeover bid.

In April 2021, the club's all time top goal scorer was one of many to back Spotify founder Daniel Ek in his attempt to buy out American billionaire Kroenke.

It was at a time of frustration amongst fans who were aggravated by the lack of investment in the team.

In turn, Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions League whilst the club hierarchy were criticised for their involvement with the European Super League.

Fast forward to 2023, however, and the club is in a much better place, two points clear at the top of the table following a fantastic season under Mikel Arteta.

Henry backs Kroenke

Henry is cautious not to rock the boat with new ownership.

He told the House of Champions podcast: “At the time [Ek] wanted to offer a solution to the fans, who were all saying 'sell, sell, sell' but sell to who.

“We offered a solution, it wasn't meant to be. I'm an Arsenal fan, let's win. It doesn't matter. We were there to offer a solution, you want it, you don't want it, it doesn't matter.

“Now everything is okay, why would anyone want to disturb anything?

“It’s all I wanted. Whether it was me in or me out I wanted Arsenal to be successful. That's the main point.”

Arteta has managed to turn Arsenal into serious title contenders this season, as they eye their first Premier League trophy since 2004.

The additions of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City have given the Gunners a huge boost.

Meanwhile, Arteta's January recruitments have already started to make a difference, with Leandro Trossard scoring a crucial goal against Brentford during their 1-1 draw.

Whilst Jorginho became the Gunners' latest hero, scoring the winner in Arsenal's 4-2 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.
