Arsenal fan has bizarre theory to decide 'true' Premier League champions

Arsenal have led the Premier League for most of the season, and one fan isn't impressed with the idea they won't win it.

An Arsenal fan is having a nice, normal reaction to seeing Manchester City overtake them at the top of the Premier League table.

It has been a surprising season for the Gunners, no doubt, with literally no one expecting them to mount a title challenge before the campaign got underway last August.

They led the league early on and at every possible landmark that people expected them to have fallen away at, they've still been leading the charge.

Whether that was at the World Cup break, Christmas, end of January or the March international break, they led every step of the way, that was until Erling Haaland slotted home his 50th goal of the season against Fulham on Saturday.

The win over the Cottagers, secured by Julian Alvarez's goal, after the hosts had equalised, took Pep Guardiola's side top of the table.

It came following Arsenal's run of form that saw them draw to Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton, in consecutive games, before losing 4-1 to rivals City last week.

City have now been top of the table for 15 days of the season, whilst the Gunners have led for 247 of them, but look like they'll miss out on the title.

One fan has used those facts to suggest that the league should be decided in another way, and you have to see it to really believe it.

Learning that his side had led the table for 93% of the campaign, Harry responded, "Surely this is a better metric of quality than just randomly stopping the league after a totally arbitrary 38 game period?"

Before adding, "So many people in the quotes don’t want to even engage their brain and just CONSIDER that after 300 years of counting up points, there could be a more accurate, analytical way of determining who the true champion is

"Everyone just wants to grunt 'DUH MORE POINTS POINTS GOOD DUH.'

"A lot of people replying that City have more 'wins,' I wrote a while ago that that’s an area Football can improve upon.

"I’m not suggesting eradicating goals, but I think the idea can be developed.

"Rugby has a 2 point conversion, cricket has 1-6, NFL has kickers, basketball has 2’s and 3’s. Why just 1 goal or nothing? Could have 0.5 goals most possession, 0.75 best bit of skill etc. just an idea.

"...Heck, even J.K. Rowling knew goals weren’t enough. She added in The Golden Snitch."

Certainly it's an interesting theory, but one can't help but think the argument is lost as soon as you're bringing up Quidditch, if it wasn't already long before then.

Of course, one accusation being thrown at the side from the Emirates Stadium is that they've 'bottled' the league, something many Arsenal fans disagree with.

One even went as far as to argue it's the other 'big six' who are the real bottlers, even though the stats show that the three highest percentages of a campaign being led without a team winning the title are all from Arsenal.
