Arsenal thrashed Chelsea 4-0 in the early hours of Sunday morning and fans are convinced they can challenge for the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta's side came into the game unbeaten in pre-season, while Chelsea slipped to a penalty shootout defeat against Charlotte on Thursday.

The Gunners were on the front foot early and opened the scoring inside 15 minutes through Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus chipped Edouard Mendy from close range for his third goal since a £45 million move from Manchester City earlier this month.

Martin Odegaard doubled his side's lead 10 minutes before the break after Gabriel Martinelli zipped the ball into his path.

The midfielder took a touch and made no mistake, finding the bottom right corner.

Bukayo Saka made it three in the 66th minute after Martinelli and Granit Xhaka had their shots saved by Mendy.

On hand to tap home the rebound, Saka started the move by blazing past Marcos Alonso.

Substitute Albert Sambi Lokonga headed home a Cedric cross in added time to round off a comfortable night for Arsenal and dismal one for Chelsea.

Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League last season and have added Jesus, Fabio Vieira and Oleksandr Zinchenko to their squad.

Their display at the Camping World Stadium has supporters dreaming of a first league title since 2004. That is what pre-season is all about, isn't it?

One person commented: "If we add another 1 or 2 players for depth, then forget about top 4. I'm dreaming of the Premier League title once again."

Another said: "Arsenal are the dark horses in the Premier League next season watch out for them."

A third put: "Arsenal are back, bigger and better than ever. It's no joke."

While someone tweeted: "If Arsenal perform at this level week in week out, they're easily title contenders this season."

Chelsea fans have every right to be concerned however and Tuchel warned his side may not be ready when the new campaign starts in two weeks time.

He admitted post-match: "I cannot guarantee we will be ready in two weeks.

"I saw today a team from Arsenal that had an idea of how to play to a level of exhaustion and a level of physical commitment that we could not match, and also a level of mental commitment which we lack because we have a lot of players who think about leaving, are looking for other options, and we have players who left. I think this at the moment is obvious."
