Erik ten Hag eyes his latest Ajax reunion as Man Utd open talks with Andre Onana's agent

Erik ten Hag eyes his latest Ajax reunion as Man Utd open talks with Andre Onana's agent

United are in need of a goalkeeper with David de Gea on the verge of leaving the club for free.

Manchester United have stepped up the process in trying to replace David de Gea as they've opened talks with Andre Onana's agent.

All the optimism of a decent season for United in Erik ten Hag's debut campaign is slowly seeping away from Old Trafford with several setbacks.

After winning the Carabao Cup and finishing in the top four it was definitely a season of progression for United but they also lost in the FA Cup final and there are obvious areas of improvement.

Certainly the club are trying to fix their issues with scoring goals and also the lack of legs in the middle of the park with a striker and Mason Mount high on their wishlist.

However it's the goalkeeper situation that Ten Hag is going to be getting desperate to solve in the very near future, with De Gea's contract not yet sorted.

It seems more and more likely that the former Spain number one will be walking away from Old Trafford this summer after 12 years.

There was already talk that he could be demoted to number two with the club eyeing a new first choice keeper but the need for a signing is getting more desperate.

According to Italian transfer wizz Gianluca di Marzio, the club held talks with the agent of Inter Milan's number one shot-stopper Onana, who previously played for Ten Hag at Ajax.

They are said to have discussed the potential move this summer and the club are now regrouping to decide their next move on the potential transfer.

Di Marzio claims that Inter will not accept any less that €50 million, despite the fact that it's been said that the Serie A side need to sell some players.

The 27-year-old is one of the world's best goalkeepers and his ability with the ball at his feet is in complete contrast to the weakest area of De Gea's game.

Ten Hag would no doubt enjoy working with the Cameroonian after their time together in Amsterdam, which ended last year when they both departed.

Onana was key to helping the Nerazzurri reach the Champions League final and could do nothing about Rodri's winning goal in the final.

He's not the only member of Simone Inzaghi's squad being eyed up by United with midfielder Nicolo Barella also linked to the Premier League side, as well as rivals Liverpool and Newcastle United.
