Alexis Sanchez scored the most bizarre 92nd minute winner for Chile against Paraguay

Alexis Sanchez scored the most bizarre 92nd minute winner for Chile against Paraguay

Alexis Sanchez, who nows plays for Marseille, scored a truly bizarre goal from a corner to win the game for Chile.

Chile forward Alexis Sanchez won his side the game in bizarre circumstances after scoring from a corner.

The 34-year-old, who play his club football in France with Marseille, won his 153rd international cap for La Roja on Monday night in their friendly clash against Paraguay – and it was certainly a memorable one.

After bagging his first of the night with 76 minutes played to level the score at 2-2, the former Arsenal and Manchester United forward stood over a corner in stoppage time.

He proceeded to deliver a, let's be honest, awful cross into the penalty box. But somehow, the ball ended up in the back of the net after an almighty blunder from Paraguay goalkeeper Antony Silva.

As you can see from the footage below, Silva attempted to catch Sanchez's tame effort into the mixer.

But the 39-year-old Liga MX goalkeeper fumbled the ball into his own net, sparking wild scenes inside the Estadio Monumental David Arellano as Chile completed a dramatic comeback.

One fan posted the moment on Twitter with the caption: "Have you ever seen a funnier Olimpico goal than this stoppage-time winner from Alexis Sánchez?".

Well, I'm not sure Silva will agree with that previous statement. You can watch the bizarre goal below.

Earlier this month, Alexis Sanchez opened up about his infamous move to Manchester United in a fascinating interview.

Sanchez memorably left Arsenal in January 2018 to sign for United in a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the opposite way to the Emirates.

Expectations were high but the Chile forward only managed five goals in 45 appearances for the Reds before moving on to Inter Milan in 2021 after spending a season on loan at the San Siro.

Alexis Sanchez has since claimed that Manchester City would have won the Champions League by now if he had joined them instead of United.

He also revealed that he came close to joining City, with former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola keen to reunite with his former player.

"I was about to go to City. I spoke to Guardiola every day, he told me happy birthday. He was like my dad, He was my dad at Barcelona and he was like my dad at City," Sanchez told TVN as reported by La Tercera and Sport Witness.

"We talked, we talked every day, he sent me messages. And everything was ready, there was a player who was going to go to Arsenal. Then Wenger tells me you are not leaving because the other player did not want to come and they do not have another.

"Suddenly the cell phone rings. Mourinho tells me: 'Alexis, here is the seven available for you.'

"It wasn't a money thing, so everyone knows. It was the same with United and City. And he said to me here is the seven, we are playing in the Champions League and we are going to give everything. I wanted to leave at that moment, but I had Guardiola's word.

"That's when I said to myself, Chilean footballer playing for Manchester United, something that has never happened. With the seven of Cantona, Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and now a Chilean had it, it was a dream.

"I don't regret going to United, things happen for a reason. I would have liked to have gone to City, yes. We would have won the Champions League by now. In the [2021 Champions League] final I would have done something."
