Adrien Rabiot’s mum sets out transfer demand as Manchester United deal edges closer

Adrien Rabiot’s mum sets out transfer demand as Manchester United deal edges closer

Rabiot is on the verge of sealing a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to bring Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot to the club, all that is left is to discuss personal terms with the player’s representatives.

The two clubs agreed a deal this week believed to be worth £15 million.

However, the player’s agent and mother, Veronique Rabiot is proving to be an awkward customer.

It has been reported that Veronique has demanded to speak to no one else but the club’s director of football, John Murtough. She has stated that she will not deal with intermediaries.

According to The Telegraph, no member of United’s board has made direct contact with Mrs Rabiot at the moment, but things could well change in the next few days.

Frenchman Rabiot is into the final year of his contract at Juventus and has asked to leave the club. The Turin club are open to sell in order to prevent losing him for free next summer, Rabiot’s three year stay in Italy is set to come to an end.

The 27-year-old came through the ranks at Paris Saint Germain’s academy and made his debut in 2012. After 227 appearances and 224 goals, the midfielder left Paris for Turin in 2019 as a free transfer.

It is believed that Rabiot wants to play in the Champions League but is willing to make an exception for United due to the size and history of the club.

Erik ten Hag is looking to add more quality into his squad after suffering a shock 2-1 defeat against Brighton on Sunday.

After the match, the Dutchman expressed his disappointment in the result.

He told Sky Sports: “It is definitely a set back, a real disappointment, but we have to deal with it.

“I knew from the start that it wouldn't be easy, it's a process and takes time, but we don't have time. We have to win games and we should have done better.”

Ten Hag added: “I analyse it and it was unnecessary. We gave too many easy balls away and the organisation was a big mistake.

“It was not the way we made it out, we made it clear how to deal with certain situations when we drop in. but that happens, we have to analyse and take the lessons from it.”

Aside from Rabiot, the Red Devils are also reportedly keen to brining in Bologna forward Marko Arnautovic and Lazio’s Serbian international midfielder, Sergej Milinkovic Savic
