F1 icon speaks out on Michael Schumacher public appearance rumour and reveals 'truth' about Ferrari legend

The ex-Formula 1 driver has spoken about Michael Schumacher's situation.

Formula 1 icon and former teammate of Michael Schumacher, Johnny Herbert, has spoken about the German legend's apparent public appearance.

Seven-time F1 world champion Schumacher suffered life-changing injuries after a horrific skiing accident back in December 2013.

At the time, the German was airlifted to a hospital, where he was placed in a medically induced coma until June 2014.

Since then, the Schumacher family have kept the former Ferrari star's condition away from the public eye.

Last month, there were reports that Schumacher made his first public appearance in 11 years.

As reported by The Mirror, the 55-year-old was seen attending the wedding of his daughter Gina-Maria and new husband Iain Bethke in Majorca.

However, speaking recently to FlashscoreUSA.com, Schumacher's former teammate Herbert has shut down those reports.

He said: "It will always be a closed shop. The most recent rumour was he attended his daughter’s wedding.

"Unfortunately, from what I understand that was all A1 fake news and no truth in it."

Former FIA president and Ferrari team boss Jean Todt said last year: "Michael is here, so I don't miss him. [But he] is simply not the Michael he used to be. He is different, and is wonderfully guided by his wife and children who protect him.

"His life is different now and I have the privilege of sharing moments with him. That's all there is to say. Unfortunately, fate struck him ten years ago. He is no longer the Michael we knew in Formula 1."

Schumacher's son, Mick, recently opened up about the impact the F1 legend has had in his life on and off the track.

As reported by Yahoo!, the 25-year-old said to Matt Whyman for his new all-access book titled 'Inside Mercedes F1': "I was a crazy kid – everything my dad did, I did. I started racing in the Formula classes the year after (the accident) and from that point onwards, I had to find my own feet.

"But I definitely learned a lot of technical points from him that I still use today, as well as from his coaching. And I have always been very resilient."
