Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen was involved in an awkward interview after the Miami Grand Prix.

After producing a stunning lap in qualifying to secure pole position, Verstappen knew he would have to dig deep if he wanted to keep the McLarens behind.

During the first lap, the Dutchman nearly tangled with Lando Norris as the Brit accused Verstappen of forcing him off track at Turn Two.

However, no further action was taken by the stewards.

Verstappen was eventually overtaken by the likes of Oscar Piastri, Norris and George Russell as he finished in fourth place.

As a result, the Red Bull superstar is now 32 points behind Piastri in the standings.

After the race, Verstappen was involved in a somewhat awkward exchange with Sky Sports reporter Rachel Brookes.

Brookes began: "Can you tell me your view of Lap 1 and the battle you had?"

Verstappen responded: "All good, yeah, that's my view."

Brookes then asked: "Do you think you're predictable to other drivers or unpredictable? Is there a..."

At this point, Verstappen interjected and said: "Why, is that a problem?"

To which the Sky Sports reporter replied: "No, no, I'm not saying that: I'm asking, I think you're trying to defend and do whatever it takes to stay ahead, right?"

Verstappen simply added: "Like everyone else." You can watch the footage below.

When asked about his battle with Verstappen, McLaren star Norris claimed that the Red Bull driver 'ruined his own race'.

He said: "He ruined his own race. He's not racing very smart. He probably could have finished third today, and he didn't because of that. He's fighting hard, as always expected, but that's way it is.

"I'm still happy. Not the position I want of course. I'm here to fight for the win and go for the win but there's always next time."

F1 will return in two weeks' time with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, which will be held at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola.
