Max Verstappen could be stripped of home Grand Prix amid threat of 'potential legal action'

The Dutch Grand Prix will take place this weekend in Zandvoort

Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen could be stripped of his home Grand Prix amid ‘potential legal action’.

The 2023 Formula 1 season has been a stroll in the park so far for Verstappen as he has a commanding lead at the top of the driver’s standings.

Verstappen has won 10 races with teammate Sergio Perez winning the other two.

However, ahead of F1’s return this weekend, Verstappen could be in a spot of bother after a video of him driving the Aston Martin Valkyrie went viral.

According to French reports, the Dutchman could face potential legal action for ‘endangering the lives of others'.

It was claimed that Verstappen was driving at 124 km/h, which is 34 km/h over the 90 km/h speed limit.

SPORTbible has contacted Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen’s representatives for comment.

Furthermore, Verstappen could be stripped of his home Grand Prix in the future.

Currently, the Dutch Grand Prix is held at the legendary Zandvoort circuit.

However, it has been reported that the race in the Netherlands could be axed after 2024 due to competition from other countries hoping to stage Grands Prix.

Former driver and current Dutch Grand Prix sporting director Jan Lammers told Viaplay: “Formula 1 Management knows what they want and we know what we want.

“If you see countries like Saudi Arabia committing to their Grand Prix for 900 million for ten years, we can’t take on that kind of competition.”

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has previously praised the Dutch Grand Prix.

As per Autosport, Domenicali said: “I want to congratulate the Dutch promoter because, without disrespect to anyone, they brought a great fresh air to the European community.

“Despite the small track, and despite the old facilities, they brought a new way of having an incredible event: in terms of passionate people, in terms of sense of community, in terms of entertainment, in terms of music and in terms of energy.”

He continued: “The energy is pretty clear. They were the ones to be the first and say: look at the music, look at the way that all the people were dancing. It was something really spectacular. And it has been an example that has been used in other places immediately.”
