What Lewis Hamilton did to Charles Leclerc immediately after Miami Grand Prix speaks volumes

Lewis Hamilton was frustrated with Ferrari's approach in the Miami Grand Prix, where he finished in eighth place.

Lewis Hamilton's gesture to Charles Leclerc has emerged after the seven-time world champion's explosive messages to his Ferrari colleagues on team radio during the Miami Grand Prix.

Hamilton endured a frustrating race in Miami Gardens, finishing eighth to continue a difficult start since moving to Ferrari for the 2025 season.

Having failed to secure a win or a podium for the Scuderia, the former Mercedes and McLaren driver finds himself 90 points behind Miami Grand Prix winner and overall leader Oscar Piastri.

And Hamilton was extremely irritated during his latest race, making a series of annoyed and sarcastic comments to his team on the radio and clearly taking issue with the strategy.

At one point he appeared to tell race engineer Riccardo Adami to “Have a tea break while you're at it" and said he was "burning up my tyres" waiting behind Leclerc even though he appeared to have more pace.

Hamilton overtook his teammate but was then instructed to swap positions - the approach being an attempt for Leclerc to get past Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes.

When Williams' Carlos Sainz was hot on his trail, Hamilton couldn't resist a dig when he quipped, "Do you want me to let him pass as well?”.

Leclerc finished a place higher than Hamilton in seventh but there appears to be no tension between the two after the race. In footage, which was shared online, the Ferrari duo appeared to clear the air and tapped each other lightly in a gesture some fans called "trauma bonding".

Hamilton was clearly not happy with the instructions from Ferrari in the race and addressed them afterwards, commenting: "I lost a lot of time behind Charles and in that moment, for sure, I was like 'come on, let's make a decision quick, let's not waste time.'

"I'm sure people didn't like certain comments, but you've got to understand, it's frustrating."

He then proceeded to further play down the exchange as he explained a moment he shared with Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur afterwards.

"Fred (Vasseur, Ferrari team boss) came to my room," Hamilton continued.

"I just put my hand on his shoulder and said, 'dude, calm down. Don't be so sensitive.'

"I could have said way worse things on the radio. You hear some of the things other people have said in the past. Some of it was sarcasm.

"You've got to understand, we're under a huge amount of pressure in the cars, you're never going to get the most peaceful messages come through in the heat of the battle."

Both Hamilton and Leclerc will be hoping their fortunes drastically improve in the next race, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola on May 18.
