Formula One fans couldn't believe what they were hearing after rookie driver Antonelli matches a long-standing record set by Lewis Hamilton.

On Sunday morning, the F1 season got back underway following a one week break for the Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit.

Having claimed pole position during Saturday's qualifying, reigning driver's champion Max Verstappen claimed his first win of the season ahead of McLaren pair Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Mercedes newcomer Antonelli impressed once again, finishing the race in sixth, but following the fantastic performance fans were shocked to hear the big revelation he made post-race.

After the first three races of the season, the 18-year-old finds himself fifth in the driver rankings and only 15 points behind teammate George Russell, who has also impressed so far this year.

In Japan, the Italian finished just 1.3 seconds behind his Mercedes rival, leading to many fans suggesting that it won't be long before he will takeover as the number one driver at the team.

Perhaps most impressive about his performances so far this season, is the fact that he's done it all while preparing for his upcoming exams at school, reminding fans just how young the Italian is.

When asked about his exams while speaking on Sky Sports, the 18-year-old said: "I'm trying to finish school so I can just focus on into racing."

Reacting to the clip on X, one fan wrote: "Mature beyond his years, he will never need the exams but shows the man he is becoming."

While one wrote: "F1 records being broken by Kimi Antonelli at Suzuka and he still has his final school exams coming up."

Another added: "And he's still finishing above cooked drivers."

The Japanese Grand Prix also saw Antonelli match a record set by his Mercedes predecessor Hamilton as he became the first driver to score points in his first three F1 Grand Prix since the Brit back in 2007.

Hamilton finished Sunday's race in seventh, nearly a hug 11 seconds behind Antonelli, who beat the seven-time world champion for the second time this season, having done so during his debut race in the season opener in Melbourne.
