Williams star Carlos Sainz delivered an X-rated radio message after suffering an embarrassing blunder during practice at the Japanese Grand Prix.

After a two-week break, Formula 1 returned on Friday morning as FP1 and FP2 took place around the world-famous Suzuka Circuit.

As expected, McLaren dominated the timesheet as Lando Norris finished top ahead of Mercedes star George Russell and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

In FP2, it was Oscar Piastri who was the fastest, with teammate Norris and Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar in second and third respectively.

During the first session, there was a viral moment courtesy of Spaniard Sainz.

After the Williams driver was called into the pits, Sainz appeared to drive pass his team's box.

His engineer said on team radio: "Box, Box, remember we are at the beginning of the pit lane."

To which Sainz replied: "Oh s**t, I missed it guys. I thought we were at the end, sorry."

Sainz's engineer added: "Ok, so straight out and you're boxing again." You can watch the footage below.

Usually, the top teams' garages are at the start of the pit lane, however, as reported by Sky Sports, things are switched at the Japanese Grand Prix.

FP2 was marred with multiple red flags, with the first being waved after Alpine driver Jack Doohan suffered a horror high-speed crash at the first corner.

Thankfully, the Australian was uninjured, Sky Sports' Ted Kravitz said: "He is OK. He spent a bit of time at the medical centre and wanted to check his physical body and whether he suffered a concussion.

"The team have confirmed to me there was no concussion suffered."

After the Doohan crash, Fernando Alonso brought out the next red flag after being beached on the run off.

The session was then interrupted twice by a fire on the side of the track.

FP3 will take place at 3:30am UK time on Saturday morning before qualifying begins at 7am.
