An update on Alpine driver Jack Doohan has been released following his horror crash during second practice for this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix.

Doohan lost control of his car at a staggering 185mph into turn one at the Suzuka International Circuit and was sent violently into the tyre barriers.

The Australian told his race engineer that he was okay, with the team now analysing the data to find out exactly what caused the crash.

Doohan got out of his car and walked away from the incident, with Alpine stating to F1TV that he would visit the medical centre for precautionary checks.

Sky Sports reporter Ted Kravitz has now revealed that Doohan is 'shaken, but otherwise okay' after the horror crash.

He added that medical staff performed concussion tests on Doohan after his crash, which came back clear.

He said: "It was an accident into the barriers, a spin into turn one, which really shocked the pit lane.

"Jack Doohan himself is okay. He spent a bit of time at the medical centre. They wanted to check his physical body, and then his head, whether he had suffered a concussion.

"The team have confirmed to me there was no concussion suffered by Jack Doohan, which is very good, after the checks at the medical centre.

"They have confirmed that the accident was at 300km/h.

"The other crucial thing the team are doing is checking the data to see whether there was something wrong with the car. Inconclusive at the moment, no conclusions.

"It was Doohan's second push lap. He'd done one hot lap, and was at the beginning of his second hot lap when the accident happened. Jack's in a debrief with the engineers at the moment.

"He is basically okay. Shaken, but otherwise okay."
