Brad Pitt has named a legendary Hollywood actor he would want to see in any sequel to the F1 movie, and it just so happens to be someone who 'risked being killed' on Top Gear.

The film simply called 'F1' has recently been released and stars Pitt as veteran driver Sonny Hayes driving for the fictional APX GP team, an underdog team ran by his former teammate.

Pitt's character is partnered by Damson Idris's Joshua Pearce as his young teammate.

The film features real footage shot during the 2023 and 2024 F1 seasons and includes genuine F1 teams and drivers throughout including Lewis Hamilton, who was also a producer.

The film cost up to $300m (£220m) to make and has so far grossed just under that figure of $293.6m (£215m) at the box office.

Several Grand Prix venues were filmed for the movie, and began during the 2023 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, with Pitt and Idris appearing on the grid during the playing of the national anthem before the race.

The movie has generally had favourable reviews, and its early box office success has prompted reports that discussions over a potential sequel have already taken place. With the prospect of a franchise on the horizon, Pitt has gone so far as to name who he would like to star in any next instalment.

Pitt has said he would very much open to the idea of fellow Hollywood legend Tom Cruise featuring in any sequel to the F1 movie, with both men having previously wanted to work on the Ford v Ferrari movie - which starred Matt Damon and Christian Bale.

Pitt said: "We'll give it a go. I'd love to.

"Tom and I, for a while there, were on Ford v Ferrari with Joe [to direct]. This was about 10 years before the guys who actually made it – and made it a great movie."

Of course, Cruise is no stranger to the automotive world, having appeared on Top Gear back in 2010 when the BBC show was fronted by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.

A popular segment on Top Gear back in the day was the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car, where celebrities drove an everyday motor around the Top Gear test track.

Cruise appeared on the programme on series 15 alongside Cameron Diaz to set a time in Kia Cee'd.

Diaz set a time of a 1:45.2, while Cruise's time was faster with a 1:44.2.

Cruise had a nerve-shredding moment in the corner - famously known as Gambon after the late actor Sir Michael Gambon - when he slightly cut the apex and went over the finish line with the left two wheels off the ground.

The startling incident prompted Clarkson to say: "What a corner! What if we'd actually killed you?!"

To which Cruise replied: "I felt the wind come underneath and I was feathering the throttle, thinking 'this is like a kite here!'."
