The prize money that the winner and runner-up of the 2025 World Darts Championship will receive has been revealed.

The 2025 final takes place at Alexandra Palace on Friday evening.

Last year, Luke Humphries defeated Luke Littler to win his first ever world title.

But ‘Cool Hand Luke’ will not successfully defend his title, as he lost to Peter Wright at the last 16 stage.

Humphries will, though, end the tournament in a comfortable position as world number one, with no other player able to catch him regardless of Friday’s result.

Michael van Gerwen became the first player through to the final after beating Chris Dobey 6-1 in sets in the semi-final.

And Luke Littler joined him after beating Stephen Bunting, also by a 6-1 scoreline, later in the evening.

But how much money will the winner and runner-up receive at Ally Pally?

The two players in the final will face off for the £500,000 winners’ prize.

The runner-up, meanwhile, will receive a cool £200,000.

A strong run at the World Championship can be crucial, as all prize money is added to a player’s ranking on the two-year Order of Merit system.

For instance, Michael Smith entered this year’s tournament as the world number two, but ‘lost’ the prize money he was defending from winning the title two years ago.

While he would have previously been automatically qualified for most major tournaments, his surprise second round defeat to Kevin Doets at Ally Pally means he is outside of the top 16 heading into 2025.

But PDC professional Matthew Edgar revealed last month that players don’t actually receive their full prize money at the end of the World Championship.

Players receive remittance notices and deductions, because they are officially self-employed contractors and not directly employed by PDC.

Edgar added: “Two per cent [of the prize money] is your PDC levy - that comes off everything before you even get it, and comes from playing on the Challenge Tour to being world champion.

“We all pay two per cent on our prize money before we even get it. Not only that, you’ve got to consider your membership fees. £500 is your membership, which goes before you even get it. That’s a once a year fee, and your DRA fee as well.

“I’ve got to deduct travel, my hotel and any other costs with that. Then, the money that is left is open to tax.”
