Peter Wright Beaten by World No 137 After Baffling Error Stuns Commentators

It has been described as "one of the most bizarre legs you will ever see".

Peter Wright took part in "one of the most bizarre legs you will ever see" during his Players Championship 34 match against world no.137 Tytus Kanik.

The 55-year-old Scotsman made a relatively slow start to his first-round match against Kanik, who had lost seven straight Players Championship matches coming into Thursday's clash in Wigan.

Wright struggled at times, but with the score at 2-2, the two-time world champion had a golden opportunity to go ahead after leaving himself on a score of 20 to clinch the leg. This all sounds straightforward, right? Wrong.

To the amusement of a baffled commentary team, it took 'Snakebite' two visits to realise he was actually on double 10.

As seen in the footage below, Wright thought he had 12 remaining and aimed for double six. Then, after scoring six with his first dart, he switched to double three. And then when he hit that, he purposely bust his score.

Wright soon returned to the oche and once again, he aimed for double six.

"I don’t know what he was doing," said one of the commentators. "Does he think he’s on double six? He does, he thinks he’s on double six. Don’t hit it and please look at the monitor Peter."

Wright proceeded to miss all three attempts and, after Kanik missed his chance to take the lead, his opponent finally realised his mistake before hitting double 10 with his first dart.

The Scot would go on to lose the match, with Kanik recording a 6-3 victory to secure his place in the second round against Matt Campbell.

Peter Wright on why he “feels 21 again”

Speaking ahead of his quarter-final clash at the German Darts Championship this month, Wright revealed that he's lost three stone after taking on a new fitness regime.

“I’m training better than ever before," he said.

“I put a few pounds back on, I don’t know why, that’s the way it goes. But I’m training better than I ever have at the moment. Even at my absolute peak, I wasn’t training as well as I am at the moment."

“I’m convinced I haven’t reached my peak in training yet," he added. “I may already be 55 years old, but I still feel like I’m 21 in this body!”
