Luke Littler Clashed With World Championship Star in Rare Heated Incident

The incident occurred at last year's Belgian Open.

Luke Littler is known for his cool, calm and collected nature on stage, so it came as a surprise when he was confronted by Ricardo Pietreczko after their match at the Belgian Open.

Pietreczko, who will face Jose de Sousa in the opening round of this year's World Darts Championship, has been vocal about Littler's demeanour in the past.

In fact, the German recently suggested that the world number one "comes across as a bit arrogant" while on stage. He added: "But the way he plays, he can get away with it sometimes.”

The rivalry between the pair stems from a tense semi-final at the 2024 Belgian Darts Open, where a frustrated Pietreczko confronted Littler after losing 7-3.

Littler extended his hand in sportsmanship but to his surprise, the 31-year-old appeared to whisper words in Littler's ear, taking issue with the way in which he decided to approach the checkout.

After squaring up to the teenager, who did not know what he had done wrong, 'Pikachu' said that he hoped the Warrington player's "arrogance punishes him."

Pietreczko later felt the need to apologise publicly to Littler with an Instagram post, where he admitted his emotions got the better of him.

Earlier this year, they met again at the last 16 stage of the Players Championship Finals, where Littler came out on top with a 10-6 win in Minehead as he averaged 102.67 compared to Pietreczko's 90.41.

Although there was no repeat of the on-stage tension, the teenager claimed Pietreczko had tried to unsettle him with "mind games".

Speaking after his victory, Littler said: "We came back on at 5-5 before the callers got on stage, it was just me and him. He said to me, ‘I expected to get one leg and now I’ve got five legs.’

“In my head I was like, ‘What are you on about?’ I genuinely said to myself, ‘You’re getting it, I’m going to win this now,’ and I did."

The pair could renew their rivalry at the Alexandra Palace this winter, but they would not meet until the semi-finals.

Littler secured his place in round two of the World Darts Championship with a routine 3-0 win over Darius Labanauskas. He will be hoping to defend his title in the coming weeks after a memorable 2025.
