Former England all-rounder Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff has quit a role over a pay dispute.
Flintoff, 47, is one of the most well-known English cricketers of all time, having starred in both the 2005 and 2009 Ashes-winning teams.
The Preston-born former cricketer-turned-TV personality has crossed over into popular culture since retiring from the sport in 2010 – aside from a brief return to Twenty20 cricket in 2014 – and has since appeared on various TV shows, including A League of Their Own, Bullseye, and Top Gear.
In 2022, Flintoff suffered serious facial and rib injuries while filming an episode of Top Gear, leaving him with ‘life-altering injuries'.
The 47-year-old was airlifted to hospital following the incident, which happened at Elvington Airfield near York.

Since recovering from the horrific ordeal, Flintoff has coached the England Lions, taking charge of the development side that acts as a feeder team to the senior squad, as well as coaching Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
However, Flintoff will no longer take up the position in 2026 due to a dispute over pay.
During an interview with the Beard Before Wicket podcast, hosted by current England star Adil Rashid, Flintoff claimed that he’s “worth more” than what the franchise had offered him.
Flintoff said: “I genuinely don’t do it for the money - although it’s nice - but I’m worth more than just over a quarter of the salary of other head coaches.

“I wasn’t encouraged; they wanted me anyway, and you want to feel valued. So I said that it’s not going to work for me, and they weren’t going to move on it.
“I felt we were building something over the last two years, and I’d have loved to see it through.”
The Superchargers are owned by India-based Sun Group, which paid £100m for a 100 per cent stake in the franchise earlier this year.
Flintoff led the Superchargers to the eliminator in the 2025 edition of The Hundred having earlier guided the side to fourth in 2024.
