Brendon McCullum has found himself in hot water after he suggested that England overprepared for the second Test of the 2025/26 Ashes Series at The Gabba.
McCullum’s side slumped to an eight-wicket defeat in Brisbane, allowing Australia to cruise into a 2-0 lead ahead of the third Test in Adelaide later this month.
The first Test finished on November 22 after a disastrous batting collapse from the Ben Stokes' side in the second innings, with the second Test getting underway on December 4.
McCullum suggested that his side needs a few days off ahead of the start of the third Test on December 17.

“I think we will probably have a beer tonight,” he told 7Cricket after his side fell to defeat at The Gabba.
“You know I think leading into this Test match, I actually think we overprepared to be honest.
“We had five intense training days, and I think, sometimes when you are in the heat of the battle, as you all know, the most important thing is to feel a little bit fresh and make sure that your top two inches are completely sound.
“I think the boys just need a few days off, and they probably need us to change up a few of the training methods a little bit.
“I am a horse racing man, and you wouldn’t just keep doing the same thing with your horse.
“You would send it around on figure eights or over the little jumps just to try and switch it on a little bit.
He added: “We will look at some alternative methods over the next few days.
“It will be good to spend a bit of time casually and just let the dust settle on what has been an intense couple of weeks.”
The comments backfired almost immediately, with a barrage of negative replies flooding in on X, formerly Twitter.
“Is this guy on the Aussie payroll,” replied one X user.
“Hubris on full display,” added another.
“Definitely needed to play more golf,” joked a third.
The fourth Test is scheduled to get underway on December 26, with the fifth set to start on January 4 in Sydney.
