Manchester City return to the Etihad for the first time since their title clinching victory in May, as they take on the recently promoted AFC Bournemouth.

The Cityzens come into the match off of an impressive 2-0 win over West Ham United, which was highlighted by Erling Haaland making his Premier League debut.

The Norwegian phenomenon did not disappoint, scoring a brace against the Hammers with his first goal coming from the penalty spot 30 minutes into the match.

Haaland’s second goal was remarkable in its own right from Kevin De Bruyne’s seamless through pass, as the 22 year-old effortlessly cushioned the ball into the far corner.

Saturday’s performance seemed to flip the script of what was being said about how the Norwegian would fit in with City’s squad or how he would incorporate himself, after a lacklustre outing against Liverpool in the Community Shield.

Although Pep Guardiola’s squad came out on top, the Hammers created pressure in the early stages of the game.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth started their campaign with a victory against Aston Villa, with their first goal of the season coming only two minutes into the match after Jefferson Lerma found the back of the net off of a deflection in the six yard box.

Scott Parker’s side pulled off the win despite only keeping 34% possession.

The Cherries restricted Steven Gerrard’s side to just two efforts on target, as Bournemouth began their latest top-flight campaign with a win.

The last time City and Bournemouth played against each other was in the third round of the Carabao Cup in 2020.

Both Liam Delap and Phil Foden scored, as the Blues would go on to win that match 2-1 on their way to their fourth straight Carabao Cup.
