Amid all the chaos of the Premier League final day, the Etihad Stadium faithful bid a fond farewell to club captain Fernandinho after almost eight years of incredible service.

The Brazilian has made the number six position his own in East Manchester, but Rodri's emergence as one of Europe's premier midfielder's has certainly softened the blow for Manchester City supporters.

However, despite the 25-year-old's elite displays this season, the Blues know signing another number six is essential this season if they are to compete on multiple fronts.

One player reportedly on the clubs radar is Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips. The England international - after surviving relegation with his boyhood team - is apparently ready to take the next step in his promising career and compete for major trophies.

Manchester City have already confirmed the £51 million capture of Erling Haaland this morning, but a report from Charlotte Duncker in the Times has revealed the club are wasting no time and have already moved on to securing the signature of Kalvin Phillips.

The Premier League champions will look to push a deal through before they jet off to America on a pre-season tour, with another report from Football Insider claiming Manchester City have already tabled a bid.

It is clear to see the club rate the combative midfielder extremely highly, with Pep Guardiola in particular a 'huge admirer' and keen to make a deal happen.

Working under Marcelo Bielsa for a number of years, Kalvin Phillips will certainly know what it takes to compete in Pep Guardiola-esc teams.
